Mediocre Fight of the Day: Avatar 3D vs Avatar 2D

The Mediocre Fight

Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed Avatar when I saw it in the theaters.  But I probably would have gotten just as much enjoyment if there had been no plot whatsoever, and they basically presented the entire thing as a Planet Earth special.  And the special effects were awesome and it was one of the first movies I haven’t felt totally slapped in the face with CG, but Sigourney Weaver as an alien still creeped me the fuck out.

So what do you get when you take out the 3D and special effects?  You have Dances with Wolves, if they all painted each other blue.  Or Pocahontas, if they painted themselves blue.  Or Dune, if they painted themselves blue and Arrakis had floaty mountains.  Or Fern Gully, if they, yes, painted themselves blue.  It seems the most creative things going on with the story in Avatar were making blue aliens, and the IMMENSELY creative name of “Unobtainium.”  Ok forget what I said before, I absolutely hate Avatar just because of that goddamn rock name.

I thought most people felt that way, I’ve never seen in 3d, just saw it on blu-ray. When I was watching it I kept saying to my brother I didn’t get the big deal with this movie, it’s just Dances with Wolves plus Fern Gully in space.
