Mediocre Fight of the Day: Anheuser-Busch vs Goose Island
Today it was announced that Anheuser-Busch, now owned by InBev, is buying Goose Island for a little under $40 million. This will have the effect of making the InBev conglomerate even bigger, and the craft brew market a little bit smaller.
As a local Chicagoan, as a band who has played at Goose Island Wrigleyville several times, and most importantly as a beer lover, this does have me concerned. We used to go almost every weekend to the Goose Island Brewery Tour down at their Clybourn location (awesome deal – 5 bucks, you get a collector’s glass, and you get to sample 6 different beers), and Matilda is still one of my favorite beers. I’ll be very upset if they do anything to mess with a good thing. AB has brought us such wonders as Bud Light Lime and Budweiser Clamato, so I’m really hoping they’re just going to be distributing Goose Island and not actually having anything whatsoever to do with the recipes.
The alternate drawing for today was just a picture of my heart breaking.
