Mediocre Fight of the Day: Working from Home vs Staycations

The Mediocre Fight

Working from home has a lot of perks.  For one, I’m not sitting in traffic for 3 hours a day anymore.  I can dress… let’s just say more casually than I could get away with in an office.  I have a little bit more flexibility with my hours.  I don’t have to listen to anyone’s phone conversation while I’m in the bathroom (that always creeped me out).  But I’m discovering this week there’s one huge drawback: when you’re not working, you’re still at the office.  It’s like you just brought a cot in to work and you’re hanging out.

See, this week I was supposed to be on vacation.  Well, I am on vacation, but until Friday it’s just a staycation and I’m hanging out in Chicago, trying to catch up on some projects.  But I spent yesterday morning on work calls, and I’ve been returning e-mails today.  It’s a lot harder to get away when your clients have your home number.  A staycation means a lot more when you’re changing your routine somehow… today I’m in the exact place I am every day, doing about the same thing.  BUT – I’m on vacation, so I guess I could go crack open a bottle of wine if I wanted.  I got that goin for me.  Which is nice.

And there is a difference between the two pictures below though.  On the right, when I’m on a staycation, I’ll periodically get up and stare longingly out the window with a single tear rolling down my cheek.

As always, if YOU have a mediocre fight you’d like to see contact us any way your little heart desires.  Leave a comment here, tweet us @MediocreFight, find us on Facebook, shoot us an e-mail at The Mediocre Fight, or draw pictures of yourself in your underwear.  That’ll probably get our attention.
